Organ transplantation in India:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Organ transplant in India is mostly conducted in private hospitals.<\/li>\n<li>The cost of transplantation is very high.<\/li>\n<li>Cardiovascular practice in India is largely dominated by bypass and stenting for ischemic heart disease.<\/li>\n<li>Tamil Nadu\u2019s deceased donar programme is one of the best in the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In India, there is need for transparency in the organ allocation process.<\/li>\n<li>It is also important to address certain key drivers behind foreigners getting cardiac transplant.<\/li>\n<li>Hard policy changes like :<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Strengthening the capacity of the public sector.<\/li>\n<li>Subsidising transplantation<\/li>\n<li>Enabling affirmative action in the allocation process in favour of public hospitals.<\/li>\n<li>Need to build high public trust in their respective nationalized health schemes like Europe<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"638\"><strong><u>What is organ donation?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Organ donation is the donation of biological tissue or an organ of the human body, from a living or dead person to a living recipient in need of a transplantation.<\/li>\n<li>Transplant: A transplant is a medical procedure where one person\u2019s dysfunctional organ or tissue is replaced by that of a healthy person, thus restoring its function.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Different types of organ donation:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Living Donation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Living donation takes place when a living person donates an organ (or part of an organ) for transplantation to another person.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Deceased Cadaver Donation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An organ or part of an organ\u00a0given at the time of donor\u2019s death.
