The United States Coast Guard\u2019s (USCG) Bertholf ship<\/span> reached Port Blair ahead of the \u2018Sea Defenders-2024\u2019 joint exercise.<\/p>\n

What is Sea Defenders-2024?<\/h2>\n

1. About<\/strong>– It is a joint exercise<\/span> between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG)<\/span> and the United States Coast Guard (USCG)<\/span>.<\/p>\n

2. Location<\/strong>– It is scheduled to take place on March 9-10 near Port Blair’s coast<\/span> of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> Focus of the Joint Exercise: <\/strong>Maritime piracy<\/span> and other threats, simulated drone attacks on merchant ships, joint search<\/span> and rescue at sea<\/span>, firefighting, pollution response<\/span>, and counter-drug operations<\/span>.<\/p>\n

4. Emergency preparedness<\/strong>-The event will also include a\u00a0simulated medical evacuation<\/span>\u00a0to improve preparedness in emergency situations.<\/p>\n

Key details about Indian Coast Guard (ICG)<\/h2>\n

1. About<\/strong>– It is an armed force safeguarding India’s maritime interests, enforcing maritime law in its territorial waters<\/span>, including the contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2. Establishment<\/strong>– It was officially founded in 1978<\/span> under the Coast Guard Act, becoming an independent Armed force of India.<\/p>\n

3. Nodal Ministry<\/strong>– It operates under the Ministry of Defence<\/span>.<\/p>\n

4. Headquarter<\/strong>– New Delhi<\/p>\n

5. Working :<\/strong>
\na.<\/strong> The ICG collaborates with other Union agencies, institutions, and authorities to protect India’s maritime interests and security, aid vessels and fishermen in trouble, and preserve the marine environment.
