Guide for States:<br \/>\na.<\/strong> It is a guidance document\u00a0for states to formulate their individual action plans for managing, preventing, and controlling snakebites using the &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">One Health<\/span>&#8216; approach.<br \/>\n<strong>b.<\/strong> It <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">aims to systematically reduce the risk of snakebite poisoning<\/span> by ensuring continuous access to anti-snake venom, building capacity, establishing referral systems, and educating the public.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Role of stakeholders: <\/strong>The NAPSE has selected key stakeholders, supporting stakeholders, and other institutes based on their roles and responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>a. key stakeholders- <\/strong>They will <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">oversee the implementation of activities outlined in the National<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">State Action Plans <span style=\"color: #333333;\">for Snakebite Prevention and Control<\/span><\/span>, offering technical and logistical support at all levels. Additionally, they will <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">assist in formalizing State Action Plans<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>b. Supporting stakeholders<\/strong> will <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">help key stakeholders coordinate<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">implement various parts of the NAPSE<\/span>. They will offer technical support for activities aimed at preventing and controlling snakebite poisoning in India across different areas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>c. Other stakeholders or institutes <\/strong>will include <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">NGOs<\/span> in health, wildlife, and veterinary sectors, along with professional associations and international development organizations. They will assist in NAPSE implementation, providing resources and expertise to support stakeholders at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Snakebite Helpline number:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>a.<\/strong> A Snakebite Helpline number <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(15400)<\/span> will be <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">tested in five states<\/span> (Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi).<br \/>\n<strong>b.<\/strong> This service will offer quick help, advice, and support to people and communities affected by snakebites, aiming to ensure swift access to medical care and information for the public.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: solid; background-color: #e9edd8;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong>Do you know?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> In India, about 50,000 deaths happen from an estimated 3-4 million snakebites yearly, making up <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">half of all snakebite deaths worldwide<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> In India, about<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> 90% of snakebites are from the &#8216;big four&#8217; snakes<\/span>: common krait, Indian cobra, Russell&#8217;s viper, and saw-scaled viper.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>UPSC Syllabus- Schemes &amp; Programmes<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source- This post on National Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Snakebite Envenoming (NAPSE) is based on the article &#8220;Union Health Ministry launches National Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Snakebite Envenoming in India&#8221; published in &#8220;PIB&#8221; on 12th March 2024.
