Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

Recently, Indian Navy\u2019s highly secretive Marine Commandos (MARCOS) conducted\u00a0their first-ever para-drop operation at sea.<\/p>\n

They managed to secure and safely evacuate the 21 crew members, including 15 Indians, from the merchant vessel Lila Norfolk.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About Anti-piracy mechanism of India<\/h2>\n

1.\u00a0The pirate ship was\u00a0intercepted by the navy\u2019s destroyer INS Kolkata, approximately 1,400 nautical miles (2,600 km) from the Indian coast.<\/p>\n

2. The MQ-9A high-altitude long endurance remotely piloted aircraft and P8I maritime reconnaissance aircraft<\/span> we the pirate vessel.<\/p>\n

3. The C-17 aircraft<\/span> airdropped the Marine Commandos (MARCOS)<\/span> for the anti-piracy operation.<\/p>\n

4. The MARCOS<\/span> conduct specialized warfare at sea, including combat diving, search and rescue, underwater demolition, visit, board, search and seizure, and reconnaissance operations. MARCOS<\/span><\/span>\u00a0can also conduct operations in the land and air.<\/p>\n

4. A MQ-9 Sea Guardian<\/span>, a high-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle, maintained uninterrupted aerial surveillance of the hijacked ship.<\/p>\n

5. The Boeing P-8I Poseidon<\/span> anti-submarine warfare aircraft and INS Subhadra,<\/span> a Sukanya-class patrol vessel, also participated in the operation.<\/p>\n
