The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL)<\/span>, under the Ministry of Education, recently conducted the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) across 23 states.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is FLNAT?<\/h2>\n

1. About<\/strong>– FLNAT is a nationwide test conducted as part of the ULLAS initiative<\/span>. It is carried out in all districts of states\/union territories participating in the program.<\/p>\n

2. Aim<\/strong>– It aims to assess the foundational literacy<\/span> and numeracy skills<\/span> of registered non-literate learners aged 15<\/span> and above<\/span>.<\/p>\n

3. Test language<\/strong>– It is carried out in the learners’ regional language<\/span>, in line with National Education Policy 2020’s<\/a> focus on multilingualism.<\/p>\n

4. Assessment coverage<\/strong>– The assessment comprises three subjects<\/span>: Reading, Writing<\/span>, and Numeracy<\/span>–each carrying 50 marks<\/span>, totalling 150 marks.<\/p>\n

5. Certification<\/strong>– Learners who pass will receive a certificate from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)<\/span>.<\/p>\n

6. Significance<\/strong>– The test is essential for evaluating the effectiveness of teaching and learning sessions within the ULLAS program and for improving literacy and numeracy skills among the population.<\/p>\n

Note<\/strong>– In 2023, there were two FLNATs held, one in March and another in September.<\/p>\n

What is the ULLAS Initiative?<\/h2>\n

ULLAS stands for Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Aim:<\/strong>
\na.<\/strong> To revolutionize education and literacy across India by fostering a learning ecosystem that reaches every individual, bridging the gaps in basic literacy and critical life skills.
\nb.<\/strong> To impart<\/span> basic education, digital<\/span> and financial literacy<\/span> and critical life skills to citizens aged 15<\/span> and above<\/span> who lost the opportunity to go to school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
