    Important Analysis<\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. Rohingyas are ethnic muslims who were a minority in Rakhine state of Myanmar. After being pushed out by majority Buddhists, 700,000 of them had to take refuge in neighboring countries of Bangladesh and India.<\/li>\n
    2. However, according to Amnesty International, Rohingya armed group called ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) committed human rights abuses against hindus in Rakhine.<\/li>\n
    3. Thus, both hindus and Rohingyas are victims of human rights\u2019 abuse.<\/li>\n
    4. However, political opportunists have taken the excuse of ARSA\u2019s attacks to push Rohingya\u2019s back to Mynamar, knowing fully well the religious persecution they face at the hands of both state and non-state actors.<\/li>\n
    5. At the same time, Indian government has labelled all 40,000 of them as \u2018illegal immigrants\u2019. It has also proposed their forcible return, calling them a threat to national security.<\/li>\n
    6. In the past, GoI has said that best way to address security concerns is to conduct \u201cfair and efficient refugee determination proceedings.\u201d<\/li>\n
    7. In pursuance of this, India has asked UNHCR to determine refugee status of Rohingyas. However, this exercise is futile, given the government\u2019s determination to push all Rohingyas back to Myanmar.<\/li>\n
    8. UN Refugee Convention excludes protection for refugees involved in serious crimes. Thus, it addresses India\u2019s concern regarding ARSA members. However, India is not a party to the convention.<\/li>\n
    9. Lack of sensitivity to Rohingyas\u2019 problems may spoil India\u2019s good record in the matter of asylum seekers\u2019 and refugees\u2019 protection.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
