{"id":28898,"date":"2018-10-24T15:33:53","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T10:03:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=28898"},"modified":"2018-10-24T15:37:46","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T10:07:46","slug":"dac-approves-procurement-of-radars-air-cushion-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/dac-approves-procurement-of-radars-air-cushion-vehicles\/","title":{"rendered":"DAC approves procurement of radars, air cushion vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/dac-approves-procurementof-radars-air-cushion-vehicles\/article24108000.ece\">DAC approves procurement of radars, air cushion vehicles<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), air cushion vehicles (ACVs)<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>News:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved procurement of high powered radars for the Indian Air Force and air cushion vehicles for the Army.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Important facts:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The DAC meeting, chaired by Defence Minster Nirmala Sitharaman, was scheduled to discuss the broad contours of the Navy\u2019s ambitious project to build six advanced submarines under the <strong>multi-billion P-75 (I) programme.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The 12 high power radars will be procured indigenously under the \u2018<strong>Buy (Indian) IDDM\u2019 category.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The radar will provide <strong>long range medium<\/strong> <strong>and high altitude radar cover<\/strong> with the capability to detect and track high speed targets.<\/li>\n<li>Radar will have the capability to scan 360 degrees without mechanical rotation of Antenna and will operate 24X7 bases with minimal maintenance requirement.<\/li>\n<li>In other deal, <strong>air cushions vehicles (ACVs<\/strong>) to be procured from an Indian shipyard.<\/li>\n<li>ACVs will enable travel at very high speeds over shallow water, sand banks, mud flats and swamps which are non-navigable by boats and small crafts due to draught restrictions or uncharted depths.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>About Project 75I-class submarine<\/u><\/strong><u>:<\/u><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Project 75I-class submarine<\/strong>is a follow-on of the\u00a0<em>Project 75<\/em>\u00a0Kalvari-class submarine\u00a0for the\u00a0Indian navy.<\/li>\n<li>Under this project, the Indian Navy intends to acquire 6\u00a0diesel-electric\u00a0submarines, which will also feature advanced\u00a0Air-independent propulsion (AIP) systems to enable them to stay submerged for longer duration and substantially increase their operational range.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAC approves procurement of radars, air cushion vehicles Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), air cushion vehicles (ACVs) News: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved procurement of high powered radars for the Indian Air Force and air cushion vehicles for the Army.
