To enhance traveller convenience, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has released new standard operating protocols (SOPs) for airports and airlines.<\/p>\n

What do the new protocols say?<\/h2>\n

1.<\/strong> For the first time, passengers can now undergo a security check at the boarding gate if a flight is delayed due to weather, technical issues<\/span>, or an onboard passenger’s death<\/span>.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Previously, passengers who deplaned had to go back to the arrivals section for security checks, causing delays and discouraging airlines from disembarking passengers.<\/p>\n

Implementation of SOP<\/h2>\n

1.<\/strong> Once the airports have established the necessary infrastructure and BCAS has conducted a review, the SOPs will be implemented.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Airports must designate space at certain boarding gates for “return boarding<\/span>.” Here, CISF personnel and x-ray machines will check passengers and scan cabin bags.<\/p>\n

What is Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
About<\/strong><\/td>\n1.<\/strong> BCAS functions as the authoritative body for civil aviation security in India<\/span>.
\n2.<\/strong> Its key responsibilities include setting standards and measures for the security of civil flights at both international<\/span> and domestic airports across India<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Establishment<\/strong><\/td>\n1.<\/strong> Initially established as a Cell within the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in January 1978, following the recommendations of the Pande Committee<\/span> in response to the hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight on September 10th, 1976.
\n2.<\/strong> BCAS was later restructured as an independent department under the Ministry of Civil Aviation on April 1st, 1987.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
