{"id":28920,"date":"2018-10-24T15:46:32","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T10:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=28920"},"modified":"2018-10-24T15:46:32","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T10:16:32","slug":"maternal-mortality-ratio-in-the-country-drops-to-130-from-167","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/maternal-mortality-ratio-in-the-country-drops-to-130-from-167\/","title":{"rendered":"Maternal mortality ratio in the country drops to 130 from 167"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Maternal mortality ratio in the country drops to 130 from 167<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>News:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Maternal mortality ratio dropped across the country as per the latest Sample Registration System (SRS) data.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><u>Important facts:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>As per the SRS data, the MMR (number of maternal deaths per 1, 00,000 live births) has dropped from 167 (in 2011-2013, the last SRS period) to 130 across the nation.<\/li>\n<li>The drop is the result of reducing the MMR in each of the States.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>States wise data:<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Kerala has the lowest MMR of 46, followed by Maharashtra with 61 and Tamil Nadu 66.<\/li>\n<li>The highest reduction from the last SRS is with the EAG States at 23%, a drop from 246(2011-13) to 188.<\/li>\n<li>Other States have dropped by 19%, taking the MMR down from 115 in 2011-13, to 93 at present.<\/li>\n<li>Uttar Pradesh\/ Uttarakhand witnessed a massive drop of 29% , where the MMR had dropped from 285 to 201.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>The SRS segments States into\u00a0<strong><u>three groups:<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Empowered Action Group (EAG)-<\/strong>Bihar Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh\/ Uttarakhand and Assam.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Southern States:<\/strong>\u00a0Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Others:<\/strong>\u00a0Remaining States and UTs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>7-\u00a0<strong><u>As per the National Health Mission estimation:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>India has bettered the MDG target of 139 for 2014-16.<\/li>\n<li>This was possible because of systematic work undertaken by the Centre and States under the NHM that has resulted in saving 12,000 lives in 2015.<\/li>\n<li>Three states has already achieved the\u00a0<strong>UN\u2019s Sustainable Development Goal of MMR 70.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maternal mortality ratio in the country drops to 130 from 167 News: Maternal mortality ratio dropped across the country as per the latest Sample Registration System (SRS) data.
