{"id":28937,"date":"2018-10-24T15:50:23","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T10:20:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=28937"},"modified":"2018-10-24T15:50:23","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T10:20:23","slug":"preventing-the-next-health-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/preventing-the-next-health-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Preventing the next health crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Preventing the next health crisis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>News:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>K Srinath Reddy, President of Public Health Foundation of India expresses his views to tackle obesity in India.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><u>Important facts:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>After wasting (a low weight-for-height ratio), India\u2019s biggest nutrition challenge is obesity (excess body fat).<\/li>\n<li>India has the second highest number of obese children in the world (14.4 million).<\/li>\n<li>Consumption of junk food and less physical activity are the main reasons of obesity.<\/li>\n<li>Adverse affects of obesity:\n<ul>\n<li>High risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some cancers,<\/li>\n<li>Fatty liver disease in children and<\/li>\n<li>Premature mortality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Measures to be taken:\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure appropriate nutrition (the right balance of nutrients)for obesity along with adequate nutrition (usually interpreted as dietary calories) for undernutrition,<\/li>\n<li>Policies on agricultural system that promotes crop diversity,<\/li>\n<li>Decrease the availability, affordability and promotion of unhealthy foods,<\/li>\n<li>Make healthy foods more accessible,<\/li>\n<li>Provision of obesity management, prevention and treatment,<\/li>\n<li>Tax on sugar and its related commodities.<\/li>\n<li>Cycle of poverty leading to NCDs (Non Communicable Diseases) and visa versa should be addressed,<\/li>\n<li>Obesity and under nutrition should be jointly addressed under\u00a0universal health coverage, and<\/li>\n<li>Universal health coverage should be financially accessible by all.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Preventing the next health crisis News: K Srinath Reddy, President of Public Health Foundation of India expresses his views to tackle obesity in India.
