The Strategic Forces Command (SFC)<\/span> and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)<\/span> successfully tested the new generation ballistic missile Agni-Prime from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.<\/p>\n

What is Agni-Prime Missile?<\/h2>\n

1. About<\/strong>-It is a medium-range<\/span>, nuclear-capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile<\/span>. It was tested for the first time in June 2021.<\/p>\n

2. Developed by<\/strong>– Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).<\/p>\n

3. Range:<\/strong> The missile has a range capability between 1,000 and 2,000 km<\/span>.<\/p>\n

4. Features:<\/strong>
\na.<\/strong> The missile \u200b\u200bis a two-stage canisterised solid propellant<\/span> ballistic missile with dual redundant navigation and guidance system<\/span>.
\nb.<\/strong> It is lighter than all the earlier Agni series of missiles<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Canisterisation<\/strong> of missiles reduces the time required to launch the missile while improving the storage and ease of handling.
\nRedundancies<\/strong> involve the introduction of extra components on the principle that if one functionality suffers a failure, then a backup feature would still enable the objective to be achieved.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

What are Agni missiles?<\/h2>\n

About<\/strong>\u2013 Agni missiles are long-range ballistic missiles designed for surface-to-surface attacks and capable of carrying nuclear payloads.<\/p>\n

First Variant<\/strong>-The first missile in the series, Agni-I, was developed as part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP)<\/a> and tested in 1989.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
