Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor has raised concerns over unauthorised Electronic Trading Platforms<\/span> (such as forex trading platforms) and has asked banks to maintain vigil against such illegal activities<\/span>.<\/p>\n

1. Electronic Trading Platforms-<\/strong> Electronic Trading Platforms (ETPs) are digital systems<\/span> where transactions involving various eligible instruments<\/span> such as securities, money market instruments, foreign exchange instruments, or derivatives can be executed. It is distinct from traditional stock exchanges.<\/p>\n

2. Issues related to ETPs-
\n<\/strong>a) Unauthorized ETPs engaged in false advertising, promising forex trading opportunities<\/span> to people living in India.<\/p>\n

b) Scams and significant financial damage to individuals by the <\/span><\/span>agents of these unauthorised ETPs who enticed users with promises of lucrative returns from forex trading or investment plans.<\/p>\n

4. Actions Taken:<\/strong><\/p>\n

a)\u00a0RBI<\/span>\u00a0framework for authorisation of electronic trading platforms 2018<\/span> (ETPs) for financial market instruments regulated by it.<\/p>\n

b) RBI maintains and updates a list of unlicensed forex trading platform<\/span>\u00a0and creates awareness among the public regarding the same.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
