What are the Challenges with GBV Survivors?<\/h2>\n

1. Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivors <\/span>face health challenges<\/span><\/b> like unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases including HIV, and physical injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. They <\/span><\/span>experience mental health issues<\/strong><\/span><\/span> such as depression, anxiety, shame, and an increased risk of self-harm or suicide.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. The <\/span>fear of stigma, blame, and legal issues<\/span><\/b> prevents them from seeking medical care, with only one in 5,000 survivors doing so.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4. The <\/span>medical care system is not fully survivor-centric<\/span><\/b>, lacking in privacy and comprehensive support.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1. <\/span>Legal reforms are needed<\/span><\/b> to allow survivors to seek and provide medical care without mandatory police involvement, ensuring their privacy and agency.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. <\/span>Health system reforms<\/span><\/b> should focus on simplifying medical protocols at primary care levels, with referral pathways to higher care levels when necessary.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. <\/span>Survivor-centric care should be emphasized<\/span><\/b>, moving away from a system overly tied to forensic and legal procedures.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4. <\/span>Training for all healthcare workers<\/span><\/b> is crucial to equip them with skills for providing empathetic, survivor-centric care. The medical and nursing curriculum should include comprehensive education on handling GBV cases.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5. An exclusive research ecosystem<\/strong> is necessary to continuously improve health system responses to GBV.<\/span><\/p>\n
