The number of deaths attributed to viral hepatitis <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">rose from 1.1 million in 2019 to 1.3 million in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>3.<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Hepatitis B<\/span> was responsible for <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">83% of these deaths,<\/span> while <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">hepatitis C<\/span> accounted for the remaining <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">17%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>4. Each day, approximately <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">3,500 individuals worldwide<\/span> succumb to infections caused <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">by hepatitis B and C.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>5. People between the ages of 30 and 54 bear half of the chronic hepatitis B and C disease burden, with children under 18 accounting for 12% of the cases. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Men make up 58%<\/span> of all cases.<\/p>\n<h2>About hepatitis<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 418px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.publichealthnotes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/types-of-hepatitis-table.jpg?resize=418%2C313&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Hepatitis \" width=\"418\" height=\"313\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Publichealthnotes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>1. Hepatitis is an<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> inflammation of the liver. <\/span>It causes <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">liver diseases<\/span> including acute and chronic infections, liver failure, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Mode of Transmission:<\/strong> Hepatitis can be spread through<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> infectious means<\/span> such as <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">viruses, contaminated food and water, and sexual contact,<\/span> as well as through <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">non-infectious means<\/span> like <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">excessive alcohol consumption, toxins, certain medications, and specific medical conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The predominant mode of <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">transmission for Hepatitis B<\/span> is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">from mother to child,<\/span> accounting for nearly 90% of cases where the infection is passed on during childbirth.<\/p>\n<p>3. There are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">five primary strains of the hepatitis virus,<\/span> identified as types <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">A, B, C, D, and E.<\/span> Each type causes liver disease but they vary significantly in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">transmission methods, disease severity, and geographic prevalence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>Symptoms:<\/strong> a) <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hepatitis B<\/span> often leads to an acute infection, manifesting symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) that can last for several weeks.<\/p>\n<p>b) <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Chronic Hepatitis<\/span> particularly in children, can cause lifelong liver issues, potentially leading to liver scarring, known as cirrhosis, and an increased risk of liver cancer.<\/p>\n<p>c) <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hepatitis C<\/span> symptoms typically develop two to twelve weeks after exposure and can include jaundice (yellow skin or eyes), loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain, fever, dark urine, pale stools, joint pain, and fatigue.<\/p>\n<p>5. <strong>Diagnosis and Treatment:<\/strong> According to the report, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">only 2.4% of Hepatitis B cases have been diagnosed,<\/span> and none have received treatment.
