The Union Health Ministry has recently issued the directive to eliminate commercial dealing in organs, especially those involving foreign citizens. Unique ID for organ donation<\/strong><\/p>\n

1) NOTTO-ID for both the donor and the recipient<\/strong>-All organ transplants, whether from a living or deceased donor, will receive a unique National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) ID for both the donor and recipient<\/span>.<\/p>\n

2) Role of the hospitals<\/strong>-To prevent illegal organ trading,<\/span> hospitals need to create this ID using the NOTTO website (www.notto.mohfw.gov.in).<\/p>\n

3) Role of state government<\/strong>-They need to enhance monitoring and stop malpractices, especially with organ transplants involving foreigners. Local authorities<\/span> should scrutinize more closely.<\/p>\n

4) Regular inspection<\/strong>-State authorities have to monitor registered hospitals<\/span> performing transplants to ensure quality and proper follow-up for donors and recipients. Any violation of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), 1994<\/span> and its rules will be investigated.<\/p>\n

About National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO)<\/h2>\n

Description<\/strong>-It is a National level organisation set up under Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare<\/span>, Government of India.<\/p>\n

Established<\/strong>-It is established under the Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Act 2011.<\/p>\n

Functions<\/strong>–
\n1) It would serve as the central hub for coordinating and connecting nationwide activities related to organ and tissue procurement, distribution, and donation\/transplantation registry in India.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) It lays down policy guidelines and protocols for various functions.<\/p>\n

3) It handles the dissemination<\/span> of information to all concerned organisations, hospitals and individuals.<\/p>\n
