Why in the news?<\/h2>\n

Recently, the Delhi High Court has held that the new threshold income to claim benefit under the Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN) scheme is prima facie \u201cextremely low<\/span>\u201d.<\/p>\n

Under the new umbrella scheme of RAN, the threshold of monthly income for obtaining benefit is \u20b91,571 for rural areas<\/span> and Rs 1,605 for urban areas<\/span>. The court is of prima facie view that the threshold limit is extremely low.<\/p>\n

About<\/strong><\/td>\n1. It\u00a0is provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.\u00a0<\/span>
\n2. It provides one-time financial assistance to poor patients<\/span> living below State\/UT wise threshold poverty line and suffering from life threatening diseases relating to heart, kidney, liver, cancer, etc. for treatment at any of Super Specialty Government hospitals\/institutes.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Components<\/strong><\/td>\nThe Umbrella Scheme of RAN includes three key components as follows:
\n1. Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN): <\/span>It offers up to 15 lakhs in financial aid<\/span> for treating critical illnesses<\/span> related to the heart, kidney, liver etc, at government hospitals or institutions with super specialty services.
\n2. Health Minister\u2019s Cancer Patient Fund (HMCPF): <\/span>It provides financial assistance up to 15 lakhs for cancer treatment at Regional Cancer Centres (RCCs),<\/span> Tertiary Care Cancer Centres (TCCCs), and<\/span> State Cancer Institutes (SCIs).<\/span><\/span>
\n3. Financial Assistance for Patients with Rare Diseases: <\/span>It allocates up to 20 lakhs for treatment of specified rare diseases<\/span> at government hospitals or institutes equipped with super specialty facilities.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
