Alternate wetting and drying (AWD) is a<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> water-saving technology<\/span> that lowland (paddy) rice farmers can apply<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> to reduce their water usage in irrigated fields. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>2. In AWD, irrigation water is applied <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">to flood the field a certain number of days<\/span> after the<br \/>\ndisappearance of ponded water.<\/p>\n<p>Hence, the field is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">alternately flooded and dried.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>3. The number of days of non-flooded soil in AWD between irrigations <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">can vary from 1 day <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">to more than 10 days<\/span> depending on the soil type.<\/p>\n<p>4.
