International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)<span style=\"color: #333333;\"> will be third<\/span>-party observer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">4.<strong> Protected area involved in the census:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/tag\/eravikulam-national-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Eravikulam National Park<\/span> <\/a>which shares a continuous boundary with Grass Hills in the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/anamalai-tiger-reserve-panel-assesses-progress-of-tiger-rewilding-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Anamalai Tiger Reserve<\/span> <\/a>will be part of the census.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">About Project Nilgiri Tahr<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1.<strong> About Project Nilgiri Tahr:<\/strong> It is an initiative launched by the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Tamil Nadu government.It is a five-year program, spanning from 2022 to 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. <strong>Objective:<\/strong> The primary goal of Project Nilgiri Tahr is to safeguard the Nilgiri Tahr population and ensure its survival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3.<strong> Components\u00a0of the project:<\/strong> \u00a0Project Nilgiri Tahr has nine components including <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">biennial synchronised survey across divisions, reintroduction of Nilgiri Tahr in the historic habitats, idntifying disease and diagnosis of lump affected individuals, radio collaring of Nilgiri Tahr, ecotourism etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">About Nilgiri Tahr<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 374px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/assets.thehansindia.com\/h-upload\/2024\/04\/21\/1440939-goat.webp?resize=374%2C224&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Nilgiri tahr \" width=\"374\" height=\"224\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sources: Hans India<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/nilgiri-tahr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nilgiri Tahr,<\/a> also known as<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Nilgiri Ibex<\/span>, are stocky goats with short, coarse fur, bristly mane and curved horns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>2. Habitat:<\/strong> These species predominantly <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">inhabit open montane grasslands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The tahr primarily resides in limited habitat areas within<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Tamil Nadu and Kerala.<\/span> Specifically in a narrow stretch of the Western Ghats extending from th<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">e<\/span> Nilgiri hills in the north to the Asambu hills in the south.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>3.<\/strong> <strong>Population status:<\/strong> There are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">3,122 Nilgiri Tahr<\/span> in the wild in Tamil Nadu and neighboring landscapes of Kerala. (Last assessment done in 2015 by WWF-India)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>4.
