He also\nadvocated that India should reap the enormous potential of &#8216;blue economy&#8217; to\nachieve higher economic growth.<\/li><li>Blue economy is the sustainable use of ocean resources\nfor economic growth, improved livelihood and jobs, and ocean ecosystem health. Goal\n14 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) calls for conservation and\nsustainable use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable\ndevelopment.<\/li><li>With a view to promote blue economy, the India\ngovernment had launched the Sagarmala project. The projects seeks to a) promote\nport-led direct and indirect development and b) provide infrastructure to\ntransport goods to and from ports in a fast, cost-effective and efficient way.<\/li><li>Sagarmala Development Company (SDC) has been set\nup to identify port-led development projects under the Sagarmala project. It provides\nequity support for the project Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs), and implement\nselected projects.<\/li><li>The government has also been implementing \u201cBlue\nRevolution: Integrated Development and Management of Fisheries\u201d. It provides\nfor development and management of the inland and marine fisheries sector\nincluding deep sea fishing in order to boost fish production and productivity.<\/li><li>The government has also notified National Policy\non Marine Fisheries, 2017. It aims at sustainable development the marine\nfisheries sector in India. <\/li><li>India, as a member of the Indian Ocean Rim\nAssociation (IORA) has adopted Mauritius Declaration enhancing Blue Economy\nCooperation for Sustainable Development in the Indian Ocean Region.<\/li><li>IORA is an inter-governmental organisation aimed\nat strengthening regional cooperation and sustainable development within the\nIndian Ocean region. It has 22 Member States and 9 Dialogue Partners.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>India\u2019s Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has said that any further degradation of marine ecosystems should be prevented.
