What are the Different Forms of Rural Tourism in India?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Rural Tourism-<\/strong> Rural tourism in India is a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">form of tourism<\/span> that <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">focuses<\/span> on <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">exploring and experiencing<\/span> the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">rural lifestyle and culture<\/span>. It activities focus on rural areas with <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">low population density<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">landscape and land use dominated by agriculture<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">forestry<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">traditional and social structure<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">rural lifestyle<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">heritage<\/span>, and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">nature<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Rural tourism was first prioritized through the eleventh five-year plan (2007-2012) by providing infrastructural development in rural areas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Different Form of Tourism<\/strong><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: solid;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 24.9091%;\"><strong>Tribal Tourism<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 75.0909%;\">This form of tourism focuses on <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">showcasing tribal customs and culture<\/span>. <strong>For ex-<\/strong> Tribal Tourism in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Majuli Island<\/span> which is dominated by tribals where the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Sattriya Culture<\/span> is centre of attraction for tourists.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 24.9091%;\"><strong>Agricultural Tourism<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 75.0909%;\">The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">agricultural system<\/span> in the lush green nature attracts tourists towards these places.<strong> For ex-<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Farm of Happiness in Ratnagiri District<\/span>, Maharashtra, where visitors are encouraged to be actively involved in the farming process.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 24.9091%;\"><strong>Eco Tourism<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 75.0909%;\">This form of tourism attracts tourists based on the unique ecology of the region. <strong>For ex-<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Eco tourism in Madla<\/span>, Madhya Pradesh which has all three natural geographic characteristics within one kilometre (Ken river- the cleanest in Asia, Panna National Park and Khajuraho- UNESCO site)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 24.9091%;\"><strong>Art and Culture Tourism<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 75.0909%;\">The unique art and culture of these rural areas becomes a centre of attraction for the tourists to experience it in its true form. <strong>For ex-<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Arjrakh print artwork in Ajrakhpur<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Gujarat<\/span> draws many tourists.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><a id=\"toc2\"><\/a>What is the significance of Development of Rural Tourism?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>1. Economic Development in Rural India-<\/strong> It is instrumental in the economic development of rural India. It is also a valuable foreign exchange earnings, thereby bolstering our forex reserves. <strong>For ex-<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">There was an inflow of $21.4 bn due to tourism in 2022<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Revitalisation of local art and crafts-<\/strong> It helps in revitalization of local art and crafts. Thereby, it prevents viable traditional occupations from being displaced from their roots. <strong>For ex-<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Sikki Grass craft workers of Bihar<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Employment Generation- <\/strong>It also results in generation of local employment and creation of new business opportunities for people in rural areas. <strong>For ex-<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hospitality and transportation related business<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Promotes the Vision of &#8216;Atmanirbhar Bharat&#8217;-<\/strong> Rural tourism helps in the revitalization of local art and crafts which is aligned with the vision of &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Atmanirbhar Bharat<\/span>&#8216; and the mantra of &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Vocal for Local<\/span>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><a id=\"toc3\"><\/a>What are the Challenges in the Development of rural tourism in India?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>1. Lack of Infrastructure-<\/strong> Rural areas often <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">lack basic amenities<\/span> such as <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">good roads<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">electricity<\/span>, and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">healthcare facilities<\/span>, which deters tourists from visiting. Further, the Inadequate infrastructure makes it difficult for local communities to provide quality services to visitors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Threat to Ecologically fragile regions-<\/strong> Overcrowding, pollution, and destruction of natural habitats can harm the local ecology and culture of the rural areas. <strong>For ex-<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Ecological vulnerability of Himalayan states like Himachal and Uttarakhand has increased<\/span> due to overcrowding of tourists.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Safety Concerns-<\/strong> Rural areas are generally perceived as unsafe by tourists due to a lack of proper security arrangements. <strong>For ex-<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Recent rape attempt at a tourist in Jharkhand<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Innovative approaches to boost and promote different tourism segments- <\/strong>Government must adopt innovative approaches to boost and promote different tourism segments such as <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">niche tourism<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">wellness tourism<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">adventure tourism<\/span>, and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">spiritual tourism<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Learning from Successful models of rural tourism-<\/strong> Villages must learn from successful models of rural tourism to achieve maximum output with minimum inputs. <strong>For ex-<\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Strategies of Pochampally Village in Telangana State<\/span> can be adopted. It was selected as one of the best Tourism Villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Focus on Infrastructural Development-<\/strong> Modern buses and stations at reliable frequency, taxi, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">shared mobility<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">App-based integration of guides<\/span>, parking, charging and refueling facilities must be developed for rejuvenating rural tourism.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.
