Recently, World Press Freedom Index 2023 was released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).\u00a0India’s ranking has dropped to 161 out of 180 countries.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nb) legal framework<\/span>

Indicators<\/strong><\/td>\nThe ranking is based on\u00a0five Indicators- <\/strong>Political, legislative, economic, sociocultural <\/span>and safety of journalists.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

1. Brief Overview of Ranking-<\/strong> According to the 2023\u00a0World Press Freedom Index,<\/span>\u00a0the situation is\u00a0\u201cvery serious\u201d<\/span> in 31 countries,<\/span> \u201cdifficult\u201d <\/span>in 42, \u201cproblematic\u201d<\/span> in 55,<\/span> and \u201cgood\u201d or \u201csatisfactory\u201d <\/span>in 52 countries. Norway has maintained its top ranking<\/span> in the World Press Freedom Index, for the seventh consecutive year.<\/p>\n

2. Status of India’s Ranking-<\/strong> India’s press freedom ranking stands at 161 out of 180 countries. <\/span>This marks a decline from “problematic” to “very bad,”<\/span> with an 11-rank drop since the 2022 report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Bhutan<\/span> ranks at 90<\/span>, Nepal<\/span> at 95<\/span>, Sri Lanka<\/span> at 135<\/span>, Pakistan<\/span> at 150<\/span>, and Afghanistan<\/span> at 152<\/span>.<\/p>\n
