The<\/span> highest loss recorded in 2008 which was around 3 million hectares. Between 2001 and 2023, Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh were the most severely affected states by forest fires.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Recent Losses: <\/strong>In 2023, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">forest fires have resulted in the loss of 2,130 hectares.<\/span> By the last week of April, Uttarakhand has reported over eight new forest fires, which has consumed 11.75 hectares of tree cover.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Fire Alerts:<\/strong> Between May to April 2024, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">India received<\/span> 12,689 fire alerts<\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Karnataka <span style=\"color: #333333;\">received the<\/span> maximum fire alerts <span style=\"color: #333333;\">in the past four weeks.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Global Status of forest fire<\/h2>\n<p>Around <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">28% of trees lost worldwide from 2001 to 2023<\/span> were due to forest fires. In 2023, Canada saw the burning of 7.76 million hectares of trees due to fires.<br \/>\nOther countries like <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Russia, Brazil, Bolivia, the United States, and Australia<\/span> were also <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">badly affected by forest fires<\/span> during this time.<\/p>\n<h2>Government Efforts to Prevent Forest Fires in India<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1) National Action Plan:<\/strong> The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has devised a focused <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">National Action Plan on Forest Fire.<\/span> It aims to inform, enable, and empower forest fringe communities, incentivizing collaboration with Forest Departments for prevention and control.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Empowering Communities:<\/strong> The plan <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">prioritizes empowering forest fringe communities<\/span> to reduce forest vulnerability.
