Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

The Madras Naturalist\u2019s Society’s Project Raptor Watch (PRW) has been actively monitoring peregrine falcons in Chennai for two years. Their objective is to document, study, and monitor various raptor species across select districts of Tamil Nadu.<\/p>\n

About<\/strong><\/td>\n1. It (Falco peregrinus) holds the distinction of being the most extensively distributed bird of prey globally. 2. It is not only recognized as the fastest bird on the planet<\/span> but also holds the title of the fastest animal in the world.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Distribution<\/strong><\/td>\nThey are found across all continents except Antarctica, as well as on numerous oceanic islands.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Habitat<\/strong><\/td>\n1. They typically inhabit open landscapes like grasslands, tundra, and meadows.<\/span>
\n2. They are most commonly sighted in tundra and coastal regions, but<\/span>\u00a0are rare in subtropical and tropical environments.
\n3. They build nests<\/span> on cliff faces and within crevices.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nature<\/strong><\/td>\n1. Peregrine Falcons are diurnal creatures,<\/span> meaning they are active during the day.
\n2. Outside the breeding season, they tend to lead solitary lives,<\/span> establishing and defending their territories.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
