Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

Recently India and France commenced the 7th<\/sup> edition of India- France Joint Military Exercise SHAKTI commenced at Umroi, Meghalaya.<\/p>\n

About<\/strong><\/td>\n1. It is a biennial training event<\/span> conducted alternatively in India and France. The last edition was conducted in France in November 2021.
\n<\/span>2. The 7th<\/sup> edition of India- France Joint Military Exercise SHAKTI commenced at Meghalaya.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Participating Nations<\/strong><\/td>\nIndia and France<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Objectives<\/strong><\/td>\nObjectives of Joint Training:<\/span>
\ni) Achieve a high degree of physical fitness.
\nii) Rehearse and refine tactical level operations.
\niii) Exchange best practices between forces.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Focus<\/strong><\/td>\nThe joint exercise will focus on operations in the semi-urban and mountainous terrain.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
What will happen during the exercise<\/strong><\/td>\n1. The tactical drills will cover a range of operations including responding to terrorist actions<\/span> that involve seizing a specific territory, setting up a Joint Command Post.
\n2. It also includes establishing an Intelligence & Surveillance Centre, securing helipads or landing sites<\/span>, conducting Small Team Insertion & Extraction.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Benefits\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n1. It will enable the two sides to share their best practices in Tactics,<\/span> Techniques and Procedures of conducting joint operations.
\n2. The joint exercise will facilitate developing inter-operability, bonhomie and camaraderie<\/span> between armed forces personnel of the two countries.
\n3. This will also enhance the level of defence cooperation and<\/span><\/span> foster<\/span> bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
