They are also known as<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Orcas<\/span>.<br \/>\nIt is the largest member of the Delphinidae family, or dolphins.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 14.4848%;\"><strong>Population Distribution<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 85.5152%;\">Killer whales are found in all oceans. They are mostly found in cold places like<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Antarctica, Norway, and Alaska.<\/span> However, they also live in warmer tropical and subtropical waters.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 14.4848%;\"><strong>Family<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 85.5152%;\">Members of this family include <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">all dolphin species<\/span>, as well as other larger species, such as long-finned pilot whales and short-finned pilot whales, whose common names also contain &#8220;whale&#8221; instead of &#8220;dolphin\u201d.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 14.4848%;\"><strong>Behaviour<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 85.5152%;\">1) Killer whales are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">highly socia<\/span>l, and most live in social groups<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> called pods<\/span>. Pods are groups of maternally related individuals seen together more than half the time.<br \/>\n2) Given their highly social and curious behaviour, orcas often approach fishing vessels to assess if there is any fish in the net, or just to observe people on the vessel.<br \/>\n3) They\u00a0rely on<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> underwater sound<\/span> to feed, communicate, and navigate.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 14.4848%;\"><strong>Body Size<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 85.5152%;\">They can measure up to 8 metres in length and weigh up to 6 tonnes as adults<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 14.4848%;\"><strong>Conservation Status<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 85.5152%;\">They are considered<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Data Deficient<\/span> on the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">IUCN<\/span> Red List of Threatened species<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2>What is behind orcas aka killer whales sinking boats?<\/h2>\n<p>1)<strong> Playful Behavior<\/strong>-Some scientists think that the orcas targeting boats may just be a<strong> playful behavior<\/strong> or a passing trend. This may have been started by a few individuals and briefly followed by others before being stopped.<\/p>\n<p>2) <strong>Orcas are attacking<\/strong>-According to this theory, it&#8217;s probable that a troubling event happened, possibly involving one or two orcas, causing a change in their behavior.
