{"id":29680,"date":"2018-10-26T11:48:14","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T06:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=29680"},"modified":"2018-10-26T11:48:14","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T06:18:14","slug":"nasa-mission-to-the-heart-of-mars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/nasa-mission-to-the-heart-of-mars\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA mission to the \u2018heart\u2019 of Mars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-life\/nasa-mission-to-the-heart-of-mars\/article23734093.ece\"><strong>NASA mission to the \u2018heart\u2019 of Mars<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Context <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NASA\u2019s first-ever mission to study the deep interior of Mars is on schedule to launch this week<\/p>\n<p><strong>InSight<\/strong> &amp; <strong>MarCO<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>InSight<\/strong>: The Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (<strong>InSight<\/strong>) is the first planetary mission to take off from the West Coast of U.S. It is the first outer space robotic explorer to study in-depth the &#8220;inner space&#8221; of Mars: its crust, mantle, and core\n<ul>\n<li>Studying Mars&#8217; interior structure answers key questions about the early formation of rocky planets in our inner solar system &#8211; Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars &#8211; more than 4 billion years ago, as well as rocky exoplanets<\/li>\n<li>InSight also measures tectonic activity and meteorite impacts on Mars today<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>MarCO<\/strong>: Launching on the same rocket is a separate NASA technology experiment known as Mars Cube One (<strong>MarCO<\/strong>), which consists of two mini-spacecraft and will be the first test of CubeSat technology in deep space. The <strong>lander<\/strong> will study the deep interior of Mars to learn how all rocky planets formed, including Earth and its Moon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CubeSat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CubeSats are a class of spacecraft based on a standardized small size and modular use of off-the-shelf technologies.
