The Nyishi are the predominant ethnic group in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Arunachal Pradesh, India.<\/span><br \/>\n2. The name<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> &#8220;Nyishi&#8221;<\/span> is derived from their language, where <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;Nyi&#8221; means &#8220;a man&#8221; and &#8220;shi&#8221; signifies &#8220;a being,&#8221;<\/span> collectively translating to &#8220;a civilized human being.&#8221;<br \/>\n3. The Nyishi language is part of the<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Sino-Tibetan family,<\/span> though its exact origins are debated.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 240px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 24.3185%; height: 205px;\"><strong>Geographical Distribution<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 75.6815%; height: 205px;\">1. Nyishis are primarily found in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">eight districts of Arunachal Pradesh:<\/span> East Kameng, Pakke Kesang, Papum Pare, Lower Subansiri, Kamle, Kra Daadi, Kurung Kumey, and Upper Subansiri.<br \/>\n2. Smaller populations<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> reside in Sonitpur and North Lakhimpur districts of Assam.<\/span><br \/>\n3. As per the 2011 Census, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">31% <span style=\"color: #333333;\">of Nyishis follow<\/span> Christianity, and 29%<span style=\"color: #333333;\"> adhere to<\/span> Hinduism.<\/span><br \/>\n2. Many continue to practice their<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> indigenous religion, Donyi Polo,<\/span> worshipping the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Sun (&#8220;Donyi&#8221;) and the Moon (&#8220;Polo&#8221;) as divine entities.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 150px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 24.3185%; height: 150px;\"><strong>Cultural Festivals<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 75.6815%; height: 150px;\">1. Nyishis celebrate three major festivals: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Boori-Boot and Nyokum in February, and Longte in April.<\/span><br \/>\n2. These festivals are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">times of communal joy,<\/span> aimed at appeasing deities to ensure bountiful harvests, health, wealth, and overall prosperity.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 413px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 24.3185%; height: 293px;\"><strong>Social Structure<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 75.6815%; height: 293px;\">1. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Polygyny is common<\/span> within the Nyishi community. They trace lineage<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> patrilineally and are organized into various clans.<\/span><br \/>\n2. Unlike many societies,<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Nyishis do not have a caste system or rigid social classes,<\/span> but t<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">hey do recognize a form of social distinction<\/span> that is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">flexible and not based on birth or occupation.<\/span><br \/>\n3. Women are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">highly regarded in Nyishi society<\/span>, often seen as pillars of peace, progress, and prosperity.<br \/>\n4.
