{"id":29810,"date":"2018-10-26T12:34:24","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T07:04:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=29810"},"modified":"2018-10-26T12:34:24","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T07:04:24","slug":"the-asian-ripple-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/the-asian-ripple-effect\/","title":{"rendered":"The Asian ripple effect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/opinion\/op-ed\/the-asian-ripple-effect\/article23650292.ece\"><b>The Asian ripple effect<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Asia\u2019s three main powers, India, Japan and China are adapting to the possibility of a post-U.S. world order whereby U.S is largely growing protectionism within the brackets of \u2018America First\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Mutual engagements among India, Japan and China: <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s reset of ties with China needs to be viewed as part of a larger Asian reset with Beijing and Japan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China and Japan has begun a conversation on two potentially divisive themes: China\u2019s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Japan\u2019s Indo-Pacific strategy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is likely that when Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang goes to Japan next month, there could be further discussion on:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">President Xi Jinping\u2019s blueprint of industrialising Eurasia through the BRI, and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Japan\u2019s Indo-Pacific strategy covering an engagement with the Indian and the Pacific Oceans, and with Asia and Africa.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cycle of China-Japan re-engagement is likely to conclude with Mr. Xi\u2019s visit to Japan, possibly for the Osaka G20 summit next year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Way ahead:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though China has economic capabilities, it is not in pole position to command a new Asian hierarchy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China would need solid partnerships with regional countries such as Japan, South Korea and India, as well as a free trade deal such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, to achieve further success.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is also well positioned to forge a new geo-economic relationship with China, which could be coordinated with Tokyo\u2019s growing engagement with Beijing, to establish an extensively collaborative but multipolar Asia.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Asian ripple effect Context: Asia\u2019s three main powers, India, Japan and China are adapting to the possibility of a post-U.S. world order whereby U.S is largely growing protectionism within the brackets of \u2018America First\u2019.
