PraVaHa is a software developed by<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> ISRO&#8217;s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC)<\/span> for analyzing the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">aerodynamics and thermodynamics of aerospace vehicles.<\/span><br \/>\n2. This software, known as a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool<\/span>\u00a0helps simulate the flow of air around various vehicles like rockets and re-entry vehicles (both with and without wings).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 312px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 17.2333%; height: 145px;\"><strong>Aim<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 82.7667%; height: 145px;\">1. PraVaHa aims <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">to take over most of the CFD simulations for aerospace vehicle design<\/span>, currently done using commercial software.<br \/>\n2. This means<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> it could become a primary tool for designing missiles, aircraft, and rockets,<\/span> providing solutions to complex aerodynamic problems.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 210px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 17.2333%; height: 210px;\">Applications of PraVaHa<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 82.7667%; height: 210px;\"><strong>1. Gaganyaan Program:<\/strong> PraVaHa is crucial in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">analyzing the aerodynamics of human-rated launch vehicles<\/span>, including HLVM3, Crew Escape System (CES), and Crew Module (CM).<br \/>\n<strong>2. Collaborative Development:<\/strong> It\u2019s designed to be <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">secure and flexible<\/span>, allowing academic institutions and government labs to work together on developments.<br \/>\n<strong>3. Simulation Capabilities:<\/strong> Currently, PraVaHa can <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">simulate airflow in both perfect gas and real gas conditions<\/span>. Work is ongoing to extend its capabilities to simulate chemical reactions, such as those occurring during re-entry into Earth&#8217;s atmosphere and in scramjet engines.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2>Importance of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD):<\/h2>\n<p><strong>i) Design Studies:<\/strong> Initial design studies for launch vehicles <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">require evaluating many different configurations<\/span> to find the best one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ii) Aerodynamic Loads:<\/strong> Aerospace vehicles face <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">extreme aerodynamic and thermal loads<\/span> (pressure and heat) during launch and re-entry into Earth&#8217;s atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>iii) Flow Understanding:<\/strong> Understanding how air flows around vehicles like rockets or crew modules during re-entry is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">crucial for designing their shape, structure, and thermal protection systems<\/span> (TPS).<\/p>\n<p><strong>iv) Unsteady Aerodynamics:<\/strong> The unsteady (changing) <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">part of aerodynamics can cause serious flow issues and significant noise<\/span> during a mission.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPSC Syllabus:\u00a0Science and technology<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source-This post on PraVaHa software has been created based on the article \u201cISRO develops PraVaHa software for aerodynamic design and analysis\u201d published in\u00a0\u201cThe Hindu\u201d on 7 June 2024.
