The board and all its member cricket associations should be brought under the Right to Information law regime, the Law Commission of India recommended to the government on Wednesday<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Commission\u2019s observations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The board\u2019s monopolistic activities, directly and indirectly, affect the fundamental rights of citizens, players, and other functionaries.<\/li>\n<li>A private citizen should be able to move the highest court against the BCCI for any violation of his fundamental rights<\/li>\n<li>Commission concluded that the BCCI exercises \u2018state-like\u2019 powers in the regulation of cricket, and thus, comes under the definition of \u2018state<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why it\u2019s concluded that BCCI is a \u201climb of the State\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cricket board, as an entity, is permitted\u00a0de facto\u00a0by the state to represent the country at the international stage<\/li>\n<li>It selects the Indian cricket team<\/li>\n<li>The selected players wear the national colours and are the recipients of Arjuna awards<\/li>\n<li>The ICC recognises BCCI as the \u2018official\u2019 body representing India and neither the government, nor BCCI have ever challenged, discussed or changed the status.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Corruption concerns<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It has created \u201can impression in the minds of the general public that corruption and other forms of malpractices are adversely affecting one of the most popular sports played in India.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Make BCCI a public body: law panel Context Commission also wants the cricket board to be brought under RTI Act for scrutiny by any citizen What has happened?
