Therefore, in this article, we will discuss the evolution of Panchayat Raj Institution(PRI) in India, the significance of PRIs for ensuring <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">social justice<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">inclusive growth<\/span>, various challenges hindering the growth of Panchayats and way forward to address these challenges.<\/p>\n<h2>How did Panchayat Raj Institution(PRI) evolve in India?<\/h2>\n<p>Article 40 of the Constitution, under the Directive Principles of State Policy, acknowledged the importance of panchayats. Although panchayats gained constitutional recognition, their structures differed among states because the Directive Principles were not legally binding. Consequently, several committees were established to promote uniformity in their structure.<\/p>\n<p>1) The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Balwant Rai Mehta Committee (1957)<\/span> recommended a three-tier model: Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, and Zilla Parishad.
