{"id":30002,"date":"2018-10-26T13:23:32","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T07:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=30002"},"modified":"2018-10-26T13:23:32","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T07:53:32","slug":"centre-for-relook-at-haj-bar-on-disabled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/centre-for-relook-at-haj-bar-on-disabled\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre for relook at Haj bar on disabled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/centre-for-relook-at-haj-bar-on-disabled\/article23507633.ece\">Centre for relook at Haj bar on disabled<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What has happened?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Centre told the Delhi High Court on Wednesday that it has advised the Haj Committee of India to examine the \u201csensitive\u201d provision that bars differently-abled persons from applying for the Haj pilgrimage<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Haj policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the petition, the new Haj policy, issued in November last year, debars \u201cpersons suffering from polio, tuberculosis, congestive and respiratory ailment, acute coronary insufficiency, coronary thrombosis, mental disorder, infectious leprosy, AIDS or any other communicable disability or handicap\u201d from applying for the pilgrimage.<\/li>\n<li>The petition said the new policy is against the various provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, the Mental Health Act, and the National Mental Health Policy, which has equality and non-discrimination as its guiding principles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Government\u2019s view<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is as per prevailing practice for more than 30 years, persons suffering from physical disabilities or suffering from specified diseases have been debarred from applying for Haj pilgrimage through the Haj Committee<\/li>\n<li>There is fear of stampede or mishaps. And in such gruelling situation, it is only the pilgrims with physical disabilities who are likely to suffer the most<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What now?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Centre has asked for this to be reviewed in terms of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 so that necessary amendments can be made in the Haj policy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Centre for relook at Haj bar on disabled What has happened?
