Nalanda is recognized as the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">most ancient university on the Indian subcontinent<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. It was established by <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Kumar Gupta of the Gupta dynasty<\/span> in Bihar during the early 5th century. The university thrived for 600 years until the 12th century.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3. It <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">reached its zenith during the reign of Harshavardhan<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">the Pala monarchs<\/span>. It served as a hub for learning, culture, and intellectual exchange, significantly influencing Indian civilization and beyond.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">4. It was primarily a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">place where monks and nuns lived and studied<\/span>. It focused on teaching major philosophies of Buddhism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">5. It attracted students from regions including China, Korea, Japan, Tibet, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia.\u00a0Students followed a strict code of conduct and participated in daily meditation and study sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">6. It offered courses in medicine, Ayurveda, religion, Buddhism, mathematics, grammar, astronomy, and Indian philosophy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">7. The university was <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">destroyed in 1193 by Bakhtiyar Khilji,<\/span> a general of the Turkish ruler Qutbuddin Aibak.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">8. It rediscovered in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1812 by Scottish surveyor Francis Buchanan-Hamilton<\/span> and later identified as the ancient university by <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Sir Alexander Cunningham in 1861<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">9.
