{"id":30163,"date":"2018-10-26T14:28:29","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T08:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=30163"},"modified":"2018-10-26T14:28:29","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T08:58:29","slug":"court-questions-centres-flip-flop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/court-questions-centres-flip-flop\/","title":{"rendered":"Court questions Centre\u2019s flip-flop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/court-questions-centres-flip-flop\/article23428963.ece\"><strong>Court questions Centre\u2019s flip-flop<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What has happened?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court on Tuesday questioned the government for shifting its stand in the court by first agreeing there is abuse of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and now filing a review petition against the March 20 judgment<\/p>\n<p><strong>Centre\u2019s flip flop<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>6<sup>th<\/sup> Report of the Standing Committee:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It was the government which brought on record the Sixth Report of the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment (2014-15) on the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill, 2014<\/li>\n<li>The report had rejected the stand of the Ministry that there was no need to act against false or malafide implications under the Atrocities Act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Most cases resulted in acquittal:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The government said that in 2015, the police filed closure reports for 15-16% of cases filed under the Act and over 75% cases resulted in acquittal or withdrawal.<\/li>\n<li>In its review petition, the government did a flip. This time, it cited figures from 2016 to show how weakly the Act was implemented.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Court questions Centre\u2019s flip-flop What has happened?
