The Philippine Army has announced that the “deadly” Typhon Weapons System<\/span>, used by the United States in joint military exercises, will soon be withdrawn from the country.<\/p>\n

About<\/strong><\/td>\nTyphon is an integrated weapons system<\/span> which is also known as the strategic Mid-Range Fires (SMRF) System.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Developed by<\/strong><\/td>\nUnited States Navy<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Capabilities<\/strong><\/td>\ni) It can fire the Standard Missile 6 (SM-6), used for ballistic missile defense and targeting ships at sea with a range of 370 kilometers (230 miles).
\nii) It can also fire the Tomahawk Land Attack Missile<\/span> which is a versatile cruise missile.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Components<\/strong><\/td>\ni) A full Typhon system includes four launchers, a command post, and support vehicles<\/span>, all mounted on trailers.
\nii) Targeting information is supplied by external sources.
\niii) Launcher Design is derived from the Mk 41 Vertical Launch System (VLS)<\/span> used on U.S. Navy ships.
\niv) It is capable of firing various types of containerized missiles<\/span>, with potential for future integration of more types.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Features<\/strong><\/td>\ni) Speed and Altitude:<\/strong> It flies at subsonic speed and low altitudes<\/span>, making it hard to detect on radar.
\nii) Guidance Systems:<\/strong> It uses advanced navigation systems<\/span> to maneuver at low elevations.
\niii) Size and Range:<\/strong> Its length is 6 meters<\/span> (18.4 feet) and ranges up to 2,400 kilometers (1,500 miles).<\/span>
\niv) Propulsion:<\/strong> Initial launch phase powered by a solid propellant.<\/span> The main flight is powered by a turbofan engine that emits minimal heat, making infrared detection difficult.
\nv) Navigation:<\/strong> It uses satellite-assisted navigation and TERCOM<\/span> (Terrain Contour Matching) radar to accurately reach its target.
\nvi) Maneuverability:<\/strong> It can twist and turn like a radar-evading fighter jet,<\/span> flying as low as 30\u201390 meters (100\u2013300 feet) above the ground.
\nvii)Payload:<\/strong> It can carry either conventional or nuclear warheads.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
