Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Russia\u2019s highest civilian honor<\/span>, the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, during his visit to Russia. This award was announced in 2019 for his exceptional services in promoting the strategic partnership and friendly relations between Russia and India.<\/p>\n

1. Significance:<\/strong> \u00a0It is Russia’s highest civilian award given for exceptional services to the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n

2. Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n

i) Awarded to prominent government and public figures.<\/p>\n

ii) Military leaders and outstanding representatives in science, culture, art, and various sectors of the economy.<\/p>\n

iii) Heads of foreign states for outstanding services to Russia.<\/p>\n

3. Historical Background:<\/strong><\/p>\n

i) It is named after Saint Andrew, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n

ii) Saint Andrew is believed to have traveled to Russia, Greece, and other parts of Europe and Asia, spreading the message of Jesus and founding the Church of Constantinople.<\/p>\n

iii) The Russian Orthodox Church with more than 90 million followers in Russia traces its roots back to Saint Andrew.<\/p>\n

4. Establishment:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

i) It was established by Tsar Peter the Great in 1698.<\/p>\n

ii) The award chain consists of 17 alternating links, featuring a gilded image of the State Emblem of Russia, a double-headed eagle.<\/p>\n

iii) It includes a badge, a star, and a light blue silk ribbon. For combat distinction, the badge and star are adorned with swords.<\/p>\n

iv) It was abolished in 1918 following the Russian Revolution and was later re-established in 1998 by an Executive Order of the President of Russia.<\/p>\n

v) This award recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed to Russia\u2019s growth and its relations with other nations, exemplified by PM Modi\u2019s efforts in strengthening the bond between India and Russia.<\/p>\n
