{"id":30408,"date":"2018-10-26T15:48:49","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T10:18:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=30408"},"modified":"2018-10-26T15:48:49","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T10:18:49","slug":"one-app-1000-services-mkeralam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/one-app-1000-services-mkeralam\/","title":{"rendered":"One app, 1,000 services: mKeralam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/tp-andhrapradesh\/one-app-1000-services-mkeralam\/article23327368.ece?utm_source=tp-andhrapradesh&amp;utm_medium=sticky_footer\"><strong>One app, 1,000 services: mKeralam<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What has happened?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kerala, which last year became the first State to declare Internet a basic human right, has notched up another first by launching mKeralam, an app that will serve as a single window for accessing thousands of government services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The two-day #FUTURE conclave, Kerala\u2019s first-ever Global Digital Summit in Kochi<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kerala State Information Technology Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Developed by the Kerala State Information Technology Mission, the app will initially offer 100 citizen-oriented public services of 20 departments, before eventually expanding to 1,000 services from more than 80 departments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Services covered already available on website<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The services accessible via mKeralam are already available throughwww.kerala.gov.in<\/p>\n<p>The idea is to offer simplified\u00a0access to citizen services across multiple platforms, including website, mobile app, and Akshaya centres so that citizens can pick whichever mode is most convenient<\/p>\n<p><strong>Setting up infrastructure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The government is fast-tracking the setting up of Statewide infrastructure to render all public services accessible on the mobile app.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kerala Wi-Fi<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It will be accessible at 1,000 public spaces evenly distributed across the State<\/li>\n<li>The Wi-Fi will be available at hospitals, bus stops, parks, libraries, government offices, and other such places where public services are accessed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5,000 Wi-Fi spots<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The objective is to have 5,000 Wi-Fi spots in five years by adding 1,000 spots each year<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cap on use:<\/strong>There would be unlimited access to government services, but there will be a cap on its use for other purposes, such as accessing social networking sites.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Criticized<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This differential provision of Wi-Fi, for government services versus other uses, has drawn some criticism on the grounds that it violates the principle of net neutrality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One year unlimited free access<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The rollout of KFI was marked by the government granting, for a period of one year, unlimited free access to the network to all who registered digitally for the #Future summit<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One app, 1,000 services: mKeralam What has happened?
