{"id":30471,"date":"2018-10-26T16:21:54","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T10:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=30471"},"modified":"2018-10-26T16:21:54","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T10:51:54","slug":"centre-wants-humane-afspa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/centre-wants-humane-afspa\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre wants \u2018humane\u2019 AFSPA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/centre-wants-humane-afspa\/article23306854.ece\"><strong>Centre wants \u2018humane\u2019 AFSPA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Context<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a first admission that Centre was keen to water down the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958, Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir informed the Lok Sabha that it was considering a proposal to make the Act more \u201coperationally effective and humane.\u201d The AFSPA is in force in several northeastern States<\/p>\n<p><strong>Backdrop<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The decision came after the Home Ministry decided to reduce the number of Central Armed Police Force personnel deployed in the northeastern States<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Centre appointed a five-member committee headed by Justice B.P. Jeevan Reddy in November 2004 to review the AFSPA.
