Why in the news?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Recently, CPRI issued an advisory related to late blight disease<\/span> threatening potato crops.<\/p>\n

About Late Blight Disease<\/h2>\n

1. Late blight is a fungal infection<\/span> caused by Phytophthora infestans.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 It seriously threatens potato crops<\/span> causing significant yield losses and reducing tuber quality.<\/p>\n

3. Weather Conditions Favor Disease Spread:<\/strong> Cool and moist Weather conditions are ideal for the spread of late blight disease.<\/p>\n

Advisory for Farmers<\/h2>\n

i) Proactive Management: <\/strong>Emphasis was placed on timely management to prevent disease outbreaks.<\/p>\n

ii) Spray fungicide<\/strong> containing mancozeb chlorothalonil<\/span> at 0.2% (2 kg in 1,000 litres of water per hectare) immediately if the crop is not yet showing symptoms. Apply fungicide every 10 days, depending on the disease’s intensity.<\/p>\n

iii) Use fungicides<\/strong> like cymoxanil + mancozeb, fermion + mancozeb, or dimethomorph + mancozeb.<\/p>\n

iv) Field Management Tips:<\/strong> It has been suggested to ensure good drainage in fields to prevent waterlogging.<\/p>\n

vi) There is a need to remove weeds to reduce the risk of fungal infection.<\/p>\n
