{"id":30547,"date":"2018-10-26T16:40:36","date_gmt":"2018-10-26T11:10:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=30547"},"modified":"2018-10-26T16:40:36","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T11:10:36","slug":"wont-not-touch-ram-sethu-will-explore-alternative-route-centre-tells-sc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/wont-not-touch-ram-sethu-will-explore-alternative-route-centre-tells-sc\/","title":{"rendered":"Won\u2019t not touch Ram Sethu; will explore alternative route, Centre tells SC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/will-not-touch-ram-sethu-to-explore-alternative-route-govt-to-sc\/article23269812.ece\"><strong>Won\u2019t not touch Ram Sethu; will explore alternative route, Centre tells SC<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What has happened?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Union government told the Supreme Court that it will not touch the Ram Sethu, an underwater coral formation in the Indian Ocean referred in mythology Ramayana, for the implementation of the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The government said cutting a route through the Ram Sethu, also known as Adam\u2019s Bridge, would be a cause of \u201csocio-economic disadvantage\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Affidavit by the Shipping Ministry<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This is part of a one-page affidavit filed by the Shipping Ministry almost four years after the Supreme Court asked the government to \u201ccome clean\u201d on the choice of the project\u2019s route and whether it would damage the Ram Sethu.<\/li>\n<li>The affidavit said instead of Alignment 6 (the route which cuts through the Ram Sethu), the government would explore an \u201calternative\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>National monument<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The court also wanted to know the government\u2019s position on whether the ancient Ram Sethu could be declared a national monument.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Won\u2019t not touch Ram Sethu; will explore alternative route, Centre tells SC What has happened?
