Why in the news?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

India\u2019s major mineral imports (mostly non-critical minerals) has witnessed almost 80% rise in value terms<\/span> over five years. The mineral import in value terms has risen to Rs. 68,633 crore in FY24<\/span> from Rs. 38,604 crore in FY19<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Major Minerals Imported in India<\/h2>\n

The major minerals imported in India are copper-ore concentrates<\/span>, phosphorite<\/span>, manganese ore<\/span>, limestone<\/span>, iron ore<\/span>, bauxite<\/span>, asbestos<\/span>, sulphur<\/span>, magnesite<\/span>, and fluorspar<\/span>. These ten minerals account for 97% of mineral imports<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Copper ore concentrate<\/strong><\/td>\nThese imports have been the highest in value terms. It constitutes nearly 40% of the total major mineral imports in FY24<\/span>. It stands today at Rs. 25,951 crore in FY24, doubling from \u20b912,146 crore over five years.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Phosphorite Imports<\/strong><\/td>\nPhosphorite imports constitute nearly 20% of the total import<\/span> in value terms. It has increased to Rs.12,649 crore in FY24 doubling from \u20b95,625 crore.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Limestone<\/strong><\/td>\nLimestone imports have been highest in volume<\/span> at 338.09 lakh tonnes (55% of the total), followed by phosphorite at 55.98 lakh tonnes (14%).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Critical minerals<\/strong><\/td>\nCritical imports, excluding lithium-ion and copper, totals Rs. 1,396.6 crore in FY24<\/span>, with a volume of 82,260 tonnes.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
