About<\/strong><\/td>\n1. Sloth bears are one of the eight bear species<\/span> found globally.
\n2. These bears have long<\/span>, shaggy dark brown<\/span> or black fur and curved claws<\/span>, which are the longest among bear species.
\n3. Sloth bears are mostly nocturnal<\/span>, foraging for food at night and resting in secluded locations during the day.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Habitat<\/strong><\/td>\nSloth bears live in a variety of dry and moist forests<\/span> and tall grasslands, where boulders, scattered shrubs, and trees provide shelter.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Distribution<\/strong><\/td>\nThey mainly inhabit regions of India<\/span>, Nepal<\/span>, Sri Lanka<\/span>, and presumably Bhutan<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Diet<\/strong><\/td>\nThey are myrmecophagous, meaning they primarily consume bugs and termites.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Conservation effort<\/strong><\/td>\nDaroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary in Karnataka and the Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary in Gujarat are dedicated sanctuary for sloth bears.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Conservation status<\/strong><\/td>\n1. IUCN: Sloth bears are listed as Vulnerable.
\n2. Wildlife Protection Act, 1972: They are included in Schedule I.
