Why in News?<\/h2>\n

Recently, the Boilers Bill 2024 was introduced in Rajya Sabha. It repeals the Boilers Act, 1923 (5 of 1923). The Bill aims to meet current industry requirements<\/span> and enhance the safety of personnel working with boilers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Major Provisions of the Boilers Bill, 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Enumeration of Functions and Powers<\/strong><\/td>\nThe functions and powers of the Central Government<\/span>, State Governments<\/span>, and the Central Boilers Board<\/span> have been enumerated in detail to avoid any confusion.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Decriminalization of Offenses<\/strong><\/td>\nThree offenses<\/span> out of the seven offenses<\/span> have been decriminalized. Non-criminal offenses, are now subject to fiscal penalties<\/span> through an executive mechanism instead of courts.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Retention of Major Offenses<\/strong><\/td>\nCriminal penalties for four major offenses<\/span>, which may result in loss of life and property, have been retained<\/span> to ensure safety.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Specific Provisions to ensure Safety<\/strong><\/td>\nSpecific provisions have been included to ensure the safety of persons working inside boilers<\/span>. It has also been provided that boiler repairs must be undertaken by qualified and competent persons.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
