Researchers found a significant difference in how various rice varieties in India utilize nitrogen. Some varieties of rice are much more efficient than others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>2. Significance:<\/strong> This discovery <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">can lead to the development of new rice varieties<\/span> that require less nitrogen while maintaining high yields. The research emphasizes the need to focus on biotechnological methods to develop rice varieties with <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">improved Nitrogen Use Efficiency<\/span> (NUE).<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Importance of Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE):<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. Nitrogen-use efficiency <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">refers to the yield of a crop relative to the amount of nitrogen<\/span> (both natural and artificial) available to it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. Poor NUE in crops leads to a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">massive waste of nitrogen fertilizers<\/span>, costing India \u20b91 trillion annually and over $170 billion globally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3. <strong>Environmental Concerns with Low NUE:<\/strong> Nitrogen fertilizers are a major source of pollution.
