Why in News?<\/h2>\n

Union Minister for Education released the India Rankings 2024 utilizing the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) created by the Ministry of Education in 2015.<\/p>\n

About India Rankings 2024:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Aspects\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\nDescription<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Participation<\/strong><\/td>\nThis year saw a significant increase in participation, with 10,885 institutions compared to 5,543 last year.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Expanded Categories<\/strong><\/td>\n1. The India Rankings 2024 introduced three new categories<\/span>: State Public Universities, Open Universities, and Skill Universities.
\n2. This expands the ranking portfolio to 16 categories and subject domains.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Employability Focus<\/strong><\/td>\nIt emphasized the importance of employability skills as key parameters in the rankings.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Evaluation Criteria Changes<\/strong><\/td>\n1. The faculty-to-student ratio requirement<\/span> has been modified for medical institutes<\/span> (from 1:15 to 1:10<\/span>) and state government universities<\/span> (from 1:15 to 1:20<\/span>).
\n2. Institutions were assessed based on five broad parameters: teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Top Institutions<\/strong><\/td>\n1. IIT Madras<\/span> retained its 1st position in the Overall Category for the sixth consecutive year.
\n2. Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru<\/span> topped the Universities Category for the ninth consecutive year.
\n3. IIM Ahmedabad<\/span> maintained its top position in the Management category for the fifth consecutive year.
\n4. AIIMS New Delhi<\/span> secured the top position in Medical for the seventh consecutive year.
\n5. Jawaharlal Nehru University<\/span> (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia<\/span> are also among the top universities.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Participation Growth<\/strong><\/td>\nThe number of unique institutions participating in the rankings increased from 2,426 in 2016 to 6,517 in 2024, with total applications rising from 3,565 in 2016 to 10,845 in 2024.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
New Category Leaders<\/strong><\/td>\n1. Anna University, Chennai topped the newly introduced State Public Universities category.
\n2. IGNOU, New Delhi led the Open Universities category.
\n3. Symbiosis Skill and Professional University, Pune ranked first in the Skill Universities category.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Recognition of Excellence<\/strong><\/td>\nThe rankings reflect the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, recognizing excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and graduation outcomes among Indian HEIs.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
