St Martin\u2019s Island is situated in the<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> northeastern region of the Bay of Bengal<\/span>, near the border between Bangladesh and Myanmar.<br \/>\n2. It is located <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">nine kilometers<\/span> from the southern tip of Bangladesh\u2019s Cox\u2019s Bazar-Teknaf peninsula.<br \/>\n3. The island is 7.3 km long and flat. It has an elevation of 3.6 meters above sea level.<br \/>\n4. It is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Bangladesh\u2019s only coral island<\/span>, surrounded by reefs located 10-15 km to the west-northwest.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 210px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 26.3158%; height: 210px;\"><strong>History<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 73.6842%; height: 210px;\">1. In the 18th Century, Arab merchants were among the first to settle on the island.<br \/>\n2.They initially named it \u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Jazira<\/span>\u201d (meaning \u201cthe island\u201d) and later changed it to \u201cNarikel Jinjira\u201d or \u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Coconut Island<\/span>.\u201d<br \/>\n3. The island was annexed by British India during a land survey in 1900. During this time, the island became known as St Martin\u2019s Island, reportedly named after the then Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong, Martin.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 120px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 26.3158%; height: 120px;\"><strong>Submersion and Resurfacing<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 73.6842%; height: 120px;\">1.
