This new scheme combines the best elements of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and the National Pension Scheme (NPS).<\/p>\n<h2>About Unified Pension Scheme (UPS)<\/h2>\n<p>1. The Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) has been launched<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> to provide government employees with a steady pension<\/span> based on their length of service and the most recent basic salary drawn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Aim:<\/strong> It aims <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">to provide a balanced approach to pension management for government employees<\/span>, combining the stability of the OPS (Old Pension Scheme) with the fiscal responsibility of the NPS (New Pension Scheme).<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Who can opt for UPS:<\/strong> The UPS is available to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">all government employees who have retired under the NPS since 2004.<\/span> They<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> can choose to switch to the UPS<\/span> and receive arrears adjusted for any amounts already withdrawn under the NPS.<\/p>\n<p>4. Employees have the<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> option to remain with the NPS<\/span>, but this decision is final once made.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Implementation:<\/strong> It\u00a0is scheduled for <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">implementation from April 1, 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Features of the Unified Pension Scheme<\/h2>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%; height: 510px;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"height: 30px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 13.6641%; height: 30px;\"><strong>Features<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 86.3359%; height: 30px;\"><strong>Description\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 240px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 13.6641%; height: 240px;\">Assured Pension<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 86.3359%; height: 240px;\"><strong>Minimum Qualifying Service:<\/strong> Employees with a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">minimum of 25 years of service<\/span> are eligible for a pension amounting to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">50% of the average basic salary<\/span> drawn during the<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> last 12 months before retirement.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>Shorter Service Periods:<\/strong> For those with <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">less than 25 years but at least 10 years of service<\/span>, the pension amount will be<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> adjusted according to the length of service.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 30px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 13.6641%; height: 30px;\">Assured Minimum Pension<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 86.3359%; height: 30px;\">\u00a0A minimum<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> pension of Rs 10,000 per month<\/span> will be provided to employees with at least <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">10 years of service upon retirement.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 30px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 13.6641%; height: 30px;\">Family Pension<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 86.3359%; height: 30px;\">The family of a<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> deceased government employee<\/span> will receive <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">60% of the employee&#8217;s pension<\/span> at the time of their demise.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 30px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 13.6641%; height: 30px;\">Inflation Indexation<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 86.3359%; height: 30px;\">The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">pension, family pension, and minimum pension amounts will be adjusted for inflation<\/span> based on the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW).\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 30px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 13.6641%; height: 30px;\">Lump Sum Payment at Superannuation<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 86.3359%; height: 30px;\">Upon retirement, employees will receive a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">lump sum payment equal to 10% of their salary and Dearness Allowance (DA)<\/span> for every <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">six months of completed service.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nThis payment is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">in addition to gratuity<\/span> and does not reduce the amount of the secured pension.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>UPSC Syllabus: Schemes and program\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source &#8211; This post on Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) has been created based on the article \u201cCentre announces Unified Pension Scheme\u201d published in \u201cIndian Express\u201d on 26th August 2024.
