Why in News?<\/h2>\n

The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of three umbrella schemes under a unified central sector scheme named \u2018Vigyan Dhara\u2019 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).<\/p>\n

About<\/strong><\/td>\n1. Vigyan Dhara is a central sector scheme<\/span> that integrates multiple existing DST schemes.
\n2. All programs under ‘Vigyan Dhara’ align with the 5-year goals of DST<\/span> to achieve the vision of a developed India by 2047.
\n3. The R&D component\u00a0of the scheme will be\u00a0aligned in line with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF)<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Aim<\/strong><\/td>\nThe merger of three schemes into ‘Vigyan Dhara’ aims to improve fund utilization efficiency<\/span> and synchronize various sub-schemes and programs.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Three main components<\/strong><\/td>\n\n

The Vigyan Dhara scheme has three broad components<\/span>:
\ni) Building human and institutional capacity
\nii) Fostering research and development
\niii) Promoting innovation, technology development, and deployment<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\u00a0Objectives<\/strong><\/td>\nTo enhance S&T capacity building, advance research, foster innovation,<\/span> and drive technology development<\/span> to strengthen the Science, Technology, and Innovation ecosystem in the country.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Benefits<\/strong><\/td>\n\n

i) Strengthen S&T Capacity:<\/strong> Enhance India’s STI ecosystem by developing advanced R&D labs in academic institutions.
\nii) Boost Research & Innovation:<\/strong> Support research in areas like sustainable energy and water, and foster international collaboration.
\niii) Develop Human Resources:<\/strong> Build a skilled workforce to increase the number of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) researchers.
\niv) Achieve Gender Parity:<\/strong> Increase women’s participation in S&T through targeted initiatives.
\nv) Encourage Innovation:<\/strong> Promote innovation from grassroots to industry, including startups.
\nvi) Promote Collaboration:<\/strong> Enhance partnerships between academia, government, and industry to strengthen research and innovation.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
