Atmospheric Circulations<\/strong>: Changes in Arctic Sea ice<\/strong> impact large-scale atmospheric patterns such as the Rossby waves<\/strong> and Asian jet streams<\/strong>, which affect the distribution and intensity of monsoon rains.<\/p>\n

Influence of Arctic Sea Ice<\/strong>: Reduced central Arctic Sea ice<\/strong> leads to lower rainfall in western and peninsular India but higher rainfall in central<\/strong> and northern India<\/strong>. Meanwhile, reduced sea ice in the upper latitudes like Barents-Kara Sea region<\/strong> delays the onset of the monsoon, making it more unpredictable.<\/p>\n

Climate Change\u2019s Role<\/strong>: The reduction of Arctic Sea ice due to climate change exacerbates these fluctuations, leading to severe droughts in some areas<\/strong> while causing excessive rainfall and flooding in others<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What are Rosby Waves?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Rossby waves are large-scale atmospheric waves that primarily occur in the mid-latitudes<\/strong> of the Earth’s atmosphere. These are also known as\u00a0planetary<\/strong>\u00a0waves.<\/p>\n

These waves form in the jet streams<\/strong>\u2014the high-altitude air currents that flow from west to east around the planet. Their meandering patterns influence the weather across regions in both the Northern<\/strong> and Southern Hemispheres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

These waves are most active in regions where there is a significant temperature difference between the equator and the poles, shaping weather patterns and influencing temperature extremes<\/strong> and precipitation<\/strong> levels worldwide.<\/p>\n
