{"id":30974,"date":"2018-10-27T11:39:38","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:09:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=30974"},"modified":"2018-10-27T11:39:38","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T06:09:38","slug":"icai-favours-existing-audit-mechanism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/icai-favours-existing-audit-mechanism\/","title":{"rendered":"ICAI favours existing audit mechanism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/business\/icai-favours-existing-audit-mechanism\/article22859172.ece\"><b>ICAI favours existing audit mechanism<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Institute of Charted Accountants of India (ICAI) <\/span><b>supports efforts to strengthen its existing disciplinary and oversight mechanism through amendments to the CA Act.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Why is it in news?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This comes in the backdrop of allegations about the <\/span><b>role of Chartered Accountants (CAs) in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley pointing fingers at auditors and regulators for failing to detect such frauds.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On strengthening its disciplinary and oversight mechanism, the ICAI said it had <\/span><b>already submitted its comments for the recommendation of the Central Government-appointed High Level Committee (HLC), which had also already drafted amendments to the CA Act.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, ICAI has indirectly <\/span><b>opposed the setting up of a super regulator National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to regulate the CA profession.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b> There\u2019s time to draw conclusion:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CA regulator said till the time disciplinary inquiry was concluded in the PNB matter and the role of all those who acted in fiduciary responsibility was established, it would <\/span><b>not be wise to draw any conclusion against the profession.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ICAI <\/span><b>remained committed to ensure accelerated inquiry and conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings in the PNB matter.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ICAI favours existing audit mechanism Context: The Institute of Charted Accountants of India (ICAI) supports efforts to strengthen its existing disciplinary and oversight mechanism through amendments to the CA Act.
